Rights Respecting Gold Accrediation

TGS has officially been awarded the Gold Accreditation for the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA)! This is a huge achievement, and we’re proud to be one of just 40 schools across the South East of England to reach this prestigious milestone.

The RRSA, led by UNICEF UK, places children’s rights at the heart of school life. It empowers young people to understand their rights, respect the rights of others, and speak up to create positive change in their school and wider community.

Our journey began in 2020 when we became a Bronze: Rights Committed school. In 2022, we progressed to Silver: Rights Aware. And now, after a rigorous accreditation process this summer, we’ve reached the highest level — Gold: Rights Respecting!

To achieve Gold, senior UNICEF advisors visited our school and spoke with pupils from both primary and secondary, staff, governors, and parents. They explored how we embed children’s rights into everyday life — and their findings were reviewed by UNICEF’s national board. We’re proud to share some of the glowing feedback from their report:

• “Children’s rights are at the core of the school’s ethos.”

• “Pupil voice is valued highly…Pupils feel listened to and know their views are taken seriously.”

• “They (pupils) are making a positive difference in school and the local community.”

• “A caring and inclusive ethos where staff ensure everyone feels supported and fully involved in school life.”
