At The Gatwick School, student leadership is more than a programme – it's a cornerstone of our culture. We are proud to offer a range of opportunities for students to develop their voice, take initiative, and lead by example. Central to this is our dedicated team of Prefects, who play a vital role in shaping the day-to-day life of the school.
Our Prefects are chosen through a rigorous and inclusive selection process that recognises leadership potential, integrity, and a commitment to our school values: Choices, Chances, Culture. As ambassadors for TGS, Prefects serve as role models to their peers, support key events, and act as a bridge between students and staff. They are empowered to influence decisions and champion student wellbeing, equity, and engagement.
We believe that giving students a voice not only builds confidence but also creates a more dynamic and responsive learning environment. Through platforms such as the Student Voice and student-led initiatives, our young people are encouraged to make informed choices, embrace new chances to lead, and contribute to a positive and inclusive culture that reflects the strength of our community.
At TGS, every student is given the opportunity to lead—not just by title, but through action, collaboration, and vision.
Check out what our very own prefects have to say about TGS:
As a prefect my role is to support my peers, be a role model and uphold the values of TGS. I became a prefect because I love to help out when I can and that is what this role is about. My favourite subject is history because I think learning about our past can help us in the future. I love being a part of our school community because it is inclusive, friendly and inspiring. Once I leave school, I aspire to join a college and get a further merit in subjects to support my future.
As a prefect I believe that we are the people who students can trust to get advice and support from. I also believe that students can talk to us if they have any issues or suggestions to help the school. I wanted to be a prefect to be there for the people in the school and community. My favourite subject is Geography because I love learning about the world, I have also made a hobby of analysing satellite maps. My aspirations after I leave TGS is to continue learning Geography and to travel. A job I would like to do is either working with satellite maps or studying the activities of earthquakes and volcano’s in Iceland.
I love being a student at TGS because I find the school unique to all the others around Surrey and Sussex and enjoy watching the school improve throughout the years. I joined the school in 2019 when I was in year 5 and have noticed how much the school has improved since, I hope this continues.
I feel being a prefect is being able to support pupils and being able to uphold the TGS values. I became a prefect because I enjoy helping others and being part of a team. My favourite subject is sports as I enjoy being active and pushing my body to its limits. I'm not sure what I want to do after I leave school but I would like a job that makes me happy and keeps me active. I love being a pupil at TGS as I have a good relationship with my friends and teachers and I like that it is a smaller community than others.
Being a prefect is setting a good example for other pupils, upholding TGS values and developing leadership skills. I wanted to be a prefect because I have leadership skills from extracurricular activities and that it will be good on my CV. My favourite subject is History because of what happened in the past and that will help me when I am studying politics.
My aspirations when I leave school are to go to college and study Politics, History, and Geography. I love being a pupil at TGS because of all the exciting opportunities that there are such as Gatwick High-Flyers where my name will be displayed on their notice board.
I’m Robert and I’m one of the TGS prefects. I’m here to help whenever needed. I became a prefect as I’ve seen the school change a lot and want to help see it through. My favourite subject is drama mainly the technical side as it’s easier than you think. After I have left TGS I’m hoping to do a level 3 T level in Performing Arts and A level Geography. I like being a pupil at TGS as it’s so simple to navigate the premises but the biggest reason is the teachers, especially Mr Phelps and Mr Sarfo!
Being a prefect is being a student who can help other students and influence them to the best they can be. I wanted to become a prefect because I believe I can be a good role model to the students at TGS. My favourite subjects are Drama and History because I’m very passionate about them. When I leave school, I wish to be an Actor. I love being a student at TGS because it is such a positive environment to be part of.
I’m Yasmine and personally being a prefect means being a change maker, acting as a bridge between all pupils here at TGS and the staff. Bringing topics of change and improvement to meetings, sharing ideas to perfect and improve the way TGS runs. I’m a very passionate person, especially when it comes to topics such as injustice, therefore when I was offered the role I jumped at the chance. As this role will allow me to combat any injustice that may occur and support those it may be happening to. I have an undying love for Spoken Poetry and Art as this acts as outlet for my creative thoughts and perspective on life. I also love History as I enjoy learning about the past and how it impacts our future. One of my aspirations for when I leave TGS is to attend a medical school in Australia and become a Neurosurgeon.
Although I’ve had some tough times at TGS I do love the level of cultural diversity within the school. I have a great love for culture, as I have a great understanding of it as growing up in a mixed culture house allowed me to explore and learn in many ways.
