Anti-Bullying

At The Gatwick School, we are fully committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where every student feels valued, supported, and free to learn without fear. We have a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of bullying and child-on-child abuse, and we act swiftly and decisively to address any behaviour that undermines the wellbeing of our students. Our school community is built on mutual respect, kindness, and accountability – reflecting our core values of Choices, Chances, Culture. We believe that every child has the right to make positive choices in a school culture where respect and safety are non-negotiable.

Bullying – whether verbal, physical, online, or indirect – is never tolerated. Our anti-bullying strategy is proactive, restorative, and embedded in our Personal Development (assemblies, Weekly Culture Focus and Tutor Time) and PSHE curriculum (delivered through the Jigsaw programme). Students are regularly taught about the impact of bullying, the importance of speaking up, and how to seek help for themselves or others.

Key elements of our approach include:

  • Clear and consistent policies for reporting and responding to incidents

  • A dedicated pastoral team and safeguarding leads

  • Ongoing education through assemblies, PSHE lessons, and themed events such as Anti-Bullying Week

  • Peer mentoring and student leadership initiatives that model respectful behaviour including our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

  • Strong partnerships with parents and carers to support students both in and out of school

We empower students to use their voices and understand that being an upstander – not a bystander – is a critical part of our school culture. Together, we are building a community where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.

Support for Parents and Carers:

We know that parents and carers play a vital role in helping us maintain a safe and supportive environment. If your child is experiencing bullying or you have concerns about their wellbeing, we encourage you to contact us immediately. We will always listen and act sensitively and appropriately.

Support available includes:

  • Access to external support services or counselling referrals, where needed

  • Clear guidance on how to support your child through online safety and peer challenges

  • Regular communication through our safeguarding newsletters and parent/carer workshops

Together, we can ensure that every student at TGS feels safe, respected, and empowered to thrive. For more details, please refer to our Safeguarding and Anti-Bullying Policy which can be found here - Anti-Bullying Policy
