At The Gatwick School, we are committed to providing a high-quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme that supports every student to make informed, ambitious choices about their future. Rooted in our values of Choices, Chances, Culture, our careers provision ensures that students are exposed to a wide range of pathways – from higher education encounters and apprenticeships to employment and vocational training opportunities through our annual Careers Fair.
Our careers curriculum is embedded across all key stages, with personalised guidance taking place in Year 9, employer encounters every term, and practical experiences that prepare students for life beyond school. We work closely with external partners, local businesses, further and higher education providers, and national careers services to ensure our students receive expert, up-to-date advice tailored to their aspirations.
Year 10 Work Experience
Work Experience is a pivotal part of our Year 10 careers programme. Every student takes part in a one-week placement designed to develop key employability skills, broaden career horizons, and provide a real-world understanding of the workplace.
Students are supported in securing placements that match their interests and future ambitions. Preparation begins early in the year, with training on CV and cover letter writing, and professional conduct. During the placement week, students reflect on their experiences through daily logs and feedback, helping them to recognise the value of the opportunity and how it connects to their long-term goals. We believe that offering this chance to engage with the world of work instils confidence, resilience, and ambition – core traits of our school culture.
