Welcome back, I hope you have had a great half term and spent some time resting! The Summer term is really exciting, with sport’s day, transitions and prize giving coming up!
On Wednesday 22nd May the children in year one went to Drusillas. They had a great time and learnt about different classifications of animals in a lesson at Drusillas learning centre. They also went on some rides, looked at all the animals, fed the lorikeets and had lunch outside in the sun, and played in the climbing area. The children went into the Meerkat lookout and were really well behaved all day. They have been buzzing about the trip all week, everyone had a great day out, and enhanced their science learning!
On Friday 24th May Reception all went to Godstone Farm. They had a lovely time out in the sun. They learnt about all different animals and where milk and cheese comes from. They were able to have a picnic outside and play in the outdoor climbing area. Both classes were so excited from the minute the arrived at school, getting on the coach even, and for the rest of the day!
At TGS we are always looking for ways to promote learning through Play. With the long summer holidays fast approaching, we have tried and tested a few activities to promote learning through play that you can try at home with your children. The first one on our list was a role play activity as recommended by @play.hooray (Instagram) Ms Dale, our SENDCo, volunteered her children as guinea-pigs and set them off to set up their own restaurant! They created their own menu, took orders using mark making and letter forming skills, repeated back orders and made imaginative concoctions for her dinner! Skills used: listening/language repetition/tripod grip/sounding out phonic formations/short term memory/processing/imagination. We’d give this one a 9/10 for enjoyment, learning and engagement.
