Summer Term

Welcome back! I hope you have all had a great holiday and really managed to rest over the Easter break. This term there is a lot to do, and very little time!

Reception are back in full swing with a beautiful outdoor area for the summer term. They are really enjoying reading with the animals under the new cover and acting out stories on the stage for their friends to watch.

In Year 1 they are focusing on their practice for the phonics screening, really making sure that they have consolidated the key sounds and are able to blend them to make real and pseudo (fake) words. The phonics screening will be the week after half term.

SATs exams in year two start in the second week of May, but we plan to make these as calm as possible. Children will complete the tests in their own time and teachers are going to be available to chivvy them along!

Year 3 are really looking forward to their residential trip which is very close now! We have a parents afternoon for this on Wednesday 1st May at 5pm to explain all the activities that are being done on the trip, and think about sleeping arrangements for the trip. The children who are not attending the trip will be working as mentors in other classes during the time that we are away.

Year 4 are working hard in preparation for year 5. The children will have a multiplication check after half term, in preparation for the mandatory Times Tables check that is being introduced next year.

Book Fayre

On Tuesday 14th May the Book Fair comes back to TGS. It will be open in the foyer in the afternoons for parents to buy books for their children. All the books bought creates commission for the school, which we use to supplement our library and is greatly appreciated.

Ice Lollies

The Friends of Gatwick School have been working hard to support the Y11 prom, our Eco Garden and other outdoor resources for break and lunch time. They are selling ice-lollies on the playground this Friday for 50 pence. Please send your child with some change to buy an ice-lolly and support the school.
