Welcome Back Letter (Primary)

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new year at The Gatwick School. As the children get back into the routine, we thought it would be useful to remind you of some of the key items your child is expected to bring to school. These items will usually stay in school, except for the water bottle which needs to be cleaned and refilled:

  • PE kit
  • Coat (weather appropriate eg hoods during wet weather)
  • Water bottle
  • Snack for Key Stage 2 only (one piece of fruit or vegetable)

We request that all belongings are clearly named. It would be helpful if your child recognises their items even if they are brand new, so it is a good idea to show them to your child. This will give them the responsibility to look after the items at school.

If your child is over the age of 5 and they would like to have milk at break time, please login and register at https://www.coolmilk.com/parents/ for this service.

The Gatwick School offer OASIS clubs to children for one hour after school to extend their learning. These are run by school staff with a range of activities each day. Please use online form at https://www.thegatwickschool.org.uk/oasis-clubs/  to confirm your child’s attendance at OASIS clubs. As part of the extended school day please provide a small, healthy snack for children to eat before the club such as a piece of fruit/vegetable.

Following the success of the new dojo chart last year, we are going to continue with this behaviour system, and you will be made aware of warnings or lost dojos during the day. You will also be notified of positive points and the top 5 Dojo earners per class will be invited on the end of year reward trip. Please make sure you are signed up to Dojo to receive these updates, or contact your class teachers to connect you. Please ensure that the messaging system on Dojo is used appropriately, and to use your class teacher as the main point of contact, as teaching assistants don’t have individual accounts.

We look forward to sharing our exciting learning environment with you and your child. We will be holding the annual McMillan Big Coffee Morning on Friday 28th September 2018 from 845-930 for Early Years and Key Stage One, and from 230-315 for Key Stage Two.

This year we would like to share the dates for Paragon events in advance. Please note that all parents and guardians will be invited into the classrooms to take part in something with your child at this time.

Homework will be shared at the beginning of each half term. The children will have a range of English, Maths and Paragon tasks to complete over the term. They can submit it as they do it, or return it when they have completed it all. Homework is project/task based so that they can extend it as far as they would like. Children will also have spellings to learn each week, and receive dojo points when they submit homework, and get 10/10 on their spellings.

Thank you for your continued support, I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Yours Sincerely,

Nirali Nagji, Deputy Head
